Whiplash
Whiplash is a non-medical condition that can describe a range of injuries to the neck caused by a sudden extension, or jerk, forward, backwards or sideways. For this reason, the injury is common in vehicle collisions or near-collisions, where sudden acceleration, deceleration or breaking results in Whiplash Associated Disorder. Although concentrated at the neck, pain can radiate to the arms and the lower back.
On top of the pain associated with this condition, there are also considerable problems with stiffness, proprioception and balance, to say nothing of the psychological trauma and loss of vitality particular to accident survivors.
